Chevy Key Fob Programming: Step-by-Step Guide

Like we said above, Chevy key fob programming is a simple process for Sherwood drivers, so long as you have the steps handy - and now you do! With the Chevy remote start key fob you would like to program in hand, follow these simple steps:

  1. From the outside, make sure that all car doors are shut.
  2. Manually unlock your car door with your physical Chevy key & enter the vehicle. Shut the door behind you.
  3. Insert the key into the ignition, but don't start the car.
  4. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver's side door through steps 5, 6.
  5. Turn your key to the "On" position. The interior lights and radio will come on, but the engine should not be ignited.
  6. Turn the key back to the "Off" position, then turn it to "On" and right back to "Off" once again in quick succession. (On - Off - On - Off)
  7. Release the unlock button you have been holding since step 4.
  8. After you release the unlock button, you'll hear the door locks engage and disengage, telling you that the programming sequence can now begin. You may now remove the key.
  9. On your Chevy key fob, press and hold the "Unlock" and "Lock" buttons simultaneously until you hear the door locks engage and disengage again, indicating that you have successfully programmed your key fob.
  10. Re-insert the newly programmed key into the ignition in the "On" position to end the programming sequence.

For the sake of simplicity, Chevrolet engineers and programmers have made it so that you can use these steps across any modern Chevy. Whether you have a Chevy Malibu key fob or a Chevy Silverado key fob - doesn't matter, you should be able to use these steps!
